Saturday, October 13:

Accessibility2007 “Recycled Poetry” Festival.  Day-long event, Downtown Sumter and the Sumter Opera House.  Festival will feature poetry readings and award ceremony for winning poets.  Call for information; 803-436-2616.  FREE EVENT.

 

Saturday, October 20:

Accessibility2007 “Green Revival Collection,” 8-10pm, Main Street Sumter, cutting-edge fashion runway show featuring the clothing and wearable art created by 8 ‘resident’ fashion designers.  All clothing and accessories will be made from recycled, reused and repurposed materials.  Music provided by Hopeforagoldensummer.  Curator: Adrienne Antonson. Saturday, October 27:

Accessibility2007 “Opening and Reception for the Accessibility2007 Invitational Recycled Art Project.”  6-10pm, Sumter County Cultural Centre, 135 Haynsworth St.  The event will feature the work 8 visiting national level artists.  Reception sponsored by Winthrop University and the Sumter Winthrop Alumni Association.  All artwork constructed and made from recycled, reused and repurposed materials.  Curator:  Mark McLeod. Accessibility2007 "The Art of Sustainable Farming," featuring speakers and short films addressing issues of sustainable farming, eco-sustainability and holistic living.  The Green Films scheduled for the conference are provided by special arrangement from the Sundance Channel.  There will also be a special “Green Farmer’s Market” located in the City Center which will feature organic food, vegetables and products for purchase.  Featured speakers include Azeez and Fathiyyah Mustafa, CFSA Farmers of the Year 2006 for North and South Carolina.  Leon Crump, Fred Broughton, Loutrina Staley, Sara Reynolds and Amanda McNulty will speak on a variety of topics.  10 a.m. until 2 p.m.  FREE ADMISSION.
